  • 2 DR SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Rocking horse ride and uncomfortable mouse fur seats, but its a 2 DR SUV w/ good exterior styling, very good fuel economy for a full size vehicle, and great reliability, plus it fills an important niche (for me) in the SUV market. After driving it around the USA for 110,000 miles it still looks and performs very well. Just wish it were smoother riding and/or had better seats.

  • Give the Sport a look! Its good. - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

Although this vehicle takes a bad review from Edmunds, I found the vehicle comfortable, stable and fun to drive. In fact, I have owned three Sports all in seccession. The most recent had every option except the sunroof. I swapped the stock recall tires with Michelin MTX and one size larger. The 4x4 system had major limitations, not being able to run on dry, semi-wet pavement, i.e. rain. Overall, I would highly recommend this vehicle. It had good ride height, versatile interior and look rugged with its two door layout.

To date I have put just under 58000 miles on my Explorer. It has been very relieable. The problems I have are fairly minor. The transmission whines a little on the shift from 1st to 2nd. The cam chain tensioner makes a rattling sound under load, and the trim panel around the radio is peeling. Other that those items I am happy with my Explorer and hope to keep it until 150000 miles.

  • Off-road use - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport

I have had this truck for over two years now. About 80% of the time off- road. When I first bought this truck I have been doing a lot of extreme off- roading with the stocked parts. It was OK the first summer the ride was very smooth over washboards then towards the fall season is when the smooth ride went away. Everytime I went over a washboard road the whole truck would shake! I have worn the suspension system to the max and never is it the same again. I have bought countless shocks and leaf springs but the smooth ride has not ever comeback. The truck is ok for the streets but is not very good for long periods of extreme off road use. Overall it is a great truck for highway use but not offroad.

I love this car! Its my first car and I love the size of it. Its small enough to maneuver easily, but big enough to make me feel safe and stable.

219k miles and still going strong! Just used it to move a trailer full of Moving stuff across the state. Couldnt be happier. Its crazy how stuff lasts when taken care of.

The drive is really good and very comfortable, tons of space in the back especially with the seats down. Winter is a joke for for it. Interior is nothing special. exterior looks like a regular suv. Gas on it is so so. Power on it is just beast,

Very reliable and fun to drive. I have only had to add new brakes and emissions valve. I have owned it for 4 1/2 years. However it is a bumpy ride.

This vehicle can take a beating. I have driven it on off-road, interstate highway, country roads, and city roads and it has performed quite well.

This is the 2nd Explorer that Ive owned, the 1st being a 01 XLT 4x4. So far I have put BF Goodrich A/T in 31x10.5x15s on it, installed a hidden hitch front mount and have a Warn 9.5ti winch on a mulit-mount to get me out of places the All Terrain tires wont. Its fun, gets decent fuel mileage and with its small turning radius can get into some pretty tight trails when going off road. Future plans are rear Detroit locker, front air or electric locker and a 4" lift.
